The incident occurred inside Piedmont Park, a popular spot on 10th Street and Charles Allen Drive in Midtown Atlanta. Katherine Janness and her dog Bowie had been out for a walk in an area on July 28, 2021, when the shocking attack occurred.

Before leaving early on July 28, Janness had informed his wife that he was going to take the dog for a quick walk. However, when he did not return after hours, his wife went looking for her.
