Cancer Became Longtime Sports Host Matt Loede’s Cause of Death

The tragedy of Cleveland sports media writer and a broadcast Matt Loede’s cause of death has been clarified after he passed away on Wednesday (September 28, 2021) at the young age of 46. May the legend rest in paradise.

The heartbreaking news was confirmed and shared by his wife Shanna in a statement posted on social media, writing, “Matt’s two-plus year battle with cancer has come to an end and today he is with the Lord. This early mornings cardiac arrest led to a lack of oxygen to his brain for approximately 50 minutes that resulted in brain damage, bleeding in his lungs, and kidney shut down.”

The statement added, “He was surrounded by love as he passed. He was funny, sweet, generous, loyal, faith-filled and he had a talent for bringing people together. He made my life beautiful. He was and will always be the love of my life. Please keep his parents, brothers, and our families and friends in your prayers.”

The Cleveland-area reporter and radio personality and his wife Shanna were about married for nine years; Now she breathed his last and leaves behind by his love of life.

Matt Loede’s journalism career of over 25 years covered different fields everything from radio work at WEOL-AM 930 in Elyria, to educating at the Ohio Media School; he also reported at local sporting events for outlets like the Associated Press Broadcasting, NBC Sports Radio, Fox Sports Radio, Sporting News Radio, and more. 

More recently, Loede worked as a sportswriter for Outkick.

Longtime Ilness Reported as Matt Loede’s Cause of Death

Official sources announced that Matt Loede’s cause of death was cancer; Earlier in 2021, actor and pro wrestling star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reached out to Loede and posted a video message with him in the midst of his struggle with cancer and COVID-19 at the same time.

“Thank you for being a fan, number one,” told Johnson in the video sent to Loede. “But most importantly I want to tell you to stay strong. You are a fighter.”

Immediately after the tragic news was released, many of Matt’s friends and fans expressed their sadness on social media by posting their tributes:

A fan wrote, “Sending prayers for @MattLoede’s wife, friends, and family. One of my first jobs was with Matt at the Sports King, he came to my senior project, just a great guy. I went to a Summerstock! Good times. His faith and fight are an inspiration.”

Another said, “Rest in Peace @MattLoede. You were an incredible journalist and an even better ambassador for Christ. You will be missed. One of the best instructors we had at the Ohio center for broadcasting. Praying for your family. May they find peace and comfort at this time.”
